On October 1, we celebrate World Urticaria Day. This is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of this often underestimated but troublesome disease. Hives, also known as urticaria, affect millions of people around the world, causing the sudden development of itchy, pale red bumps on the skin that come in a variety of sizes and shapes. It is often accompanied by angioedema.
Hives are more than just a skin problem. It is associated with various comorbidities, which is why diagnosis, prevention and implementation of appropriate treatment are so important.
The Polish Society of Allergology actively supports people with urticaria. Our activities include: development of recommendations for the care of a child with urticaria in an educational institution, which were included in the announcement of the Minister of Health “On recommendations for the care of students with anaphylaxis, bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis and urticaria at school” of November 3, 2022 r.
