
The 11th Drug Hypersensitivity Symposium, organized by the EAACI Drug Hypersensitivity Section, took place in Antwerp from April 9–11, 2026. The event’s main theme was “Bridging basic and clinical science in drug hypersensitivity.” Over 640 specialists from 61 countries participated in the meeting. The program included lectures, pro-conference discussions, educational sessions for younger participants, and oral and poster presentations.
During the opening ceremony, the EAACI Lifetime Achievement Award: Contribution to the Development of Drug Allergy Research was presented. The recipient was Professor Antonino Romano, recognized for his outstanding contribution to the advancement of drug allergy research. His scientific achievements include, among others: Studies on cephalosporin antibiotic allergy, the management of hypersensitivity to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and the role of drugs as cofactors of hypersensitivity reactions were published. Many recommendations developed based on these studies have been implemented in everyday clinical practice.
The symposium was attended by a large group of allergists from Poland, representing centers in Gdańsk, Katowice, Kraków, Łódź, and Wrocław. Many of them presented their research results in oral and poster presentations.
